General Information

Ice Fishing Derby Results: January 24, 2004

With over 86 entries signed up for the derby, a foot of ice, and $645.00 in prize money, the Ice Fishing derby was a fun day for all! For breakfast, I (Lj) started my day with 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, juice and coffee for $2.50 -- what a deal! Many thanks to everyone involved for the delicious breakfast. The derby lasted from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday. The winners were in three categories each paying $215.00:

  • Largest bass at 7lbs by Marcel Willame
  • Largest perch at 13 inches by Paul Costenino
  • Largest pickerel at 19 inches by Peter Burdzel
Many Thanks to all of the judges!

The Ice Fishing derby raffle appears to be one of the biggest ever! The winners were:

  • Joe Sabatinelli at $300.00
  • Joe Paradise at $75.00
  • Mike Acquafresca at $25.00.

It's another year at the Ice Fishing Derby raffle that Frank Wiley sells a winning tickets, and this year he sold two out of the three winning tickets! And the unofficial count is that he sold over 90 books ! Thanks Frank!

Blue Man Group

On Sunday, Jan 25th, 18 members and friends of the Woodville R&G sat in the front row for the Blue Man Group show! Many thanks to Betty for the reservations at Felipo's (awesome meal), to Brad our navigator (typical truck driver), and to Jen our travel coordinator and for getting the tickets!

Two Bets That We Can't Lose

Every year, Brad Lovejoy sells 100 tickets at $20.00 each to raffle of last year's TV at the end of the Superbowl, and then goes out and buys us a brand new TV. This results in our club having two wide screen TV's for the Superbowl, and with someone who visits our club getting a one year old TV at the end of the Superbowl game! This past year's tv is a 51" Sony Widescreen with 1080i resolution. And the winner was Deb Merchant (Hope she shares the TV with you Jerry Merchant). Thanks Brad!

Lj's Sporting tip:

Ice Fishing -- Steel leaders are a must for catching large pickerel and pike, but they are not productive for catching trout and salmon.

Next Month: A report on the big game feed dinner!
