Dues are due

If you have a hardship paying your dues this year, please contact someone from the membership committee or one of the officers. We'd rather work it out with you than loose a valuable member. If you have not paid by January 31st, your name will be dropped from the member's list. If you decided to return at a later date, you will have to go thru the interview process.

Hall decorated for Christmas

A fantastic job of decorating the hall and tree by Cris Riley and her elves! This year's tree had all of the decorations appropriate for a Rod and Gun club - Antlers, fish, bobbers, lures, gun shells, sporting birds, and boats with a Gold and Red theme. The walls were decorated with presents and bows. All of the wall mounts were decorated with ties and Santa hats. The bear over the doorway had mistletoe for a few lucky sportsmen - enuf said!

The centerpieces were put together by Kim Clark and her helpers.

Jenifer Marchesi took it upon herself to decorate the bar area. It was all a glitter with a blue and silver theme. The club was very festive for the month of December. Thank you to all that helped in making the holidays at the club, special ones.

Adult Christmas Party

What a great meal for $10.00 per person. The chefs outdid themselves again. We started out with a variety of appetizers provided by the club and/or its members. This was followed by Prime rib, cranberry stuffed chicken breast, butternut squash, potatoes, Caesar salad, rolls and butter. The dessert table had a variety of home baked goods, donated by the party goers. DJ Michelle did an awesome job and took many requests throughout the evening. Many thanks to all that contributed to our party and to Bruce and Betty for the home made Bailey's!

Congratulations to the raffle winners of the 4 baskets of cheer and of Kim's boxwood table decorations. Congratulations to Brad Lovejoy for winning the free membership for 2008!

We would like to say "thank you" to Rusty Croft for stepping in this year as Santa. He did an awesome job of filling some very big shoes. And a heartfelt "Thank You" to Nick Boody who has been Santa for many years and had to step down this year due to travel.

We Need Your Help

Fundraising events continue for Geno Nardini's 14 year old daughter Laura, who is in critical condition. In these difficult times, it is heartwarming to see the generosity of the club members, which include:

  • 5th Grader Heather Clark, daughter of Boo and Kim, heard about Laura at the club and raised over $760.00 dollars through cookie sales at her school and at the Woodville Rod and Gun Club.
  • Phil Goodwin, after hearing about Laura through the club, contacted his Ice Fishing Pikers and raised over $1500.00
  • The WRG has raised over $5000.00 so far.
  • A benefit dinner will be held at the WRG on March 24th. If you cannot attend, donations will be accepted at the door.

Superbowl Sunday

The annual Wide-Screen TV raffle will be held at half-time at the WRG. The winner does not need to be present to win. See the bartender or Brad Lovejoy for one of the 100 tickets at $20.00 per ticket.

Gamefeed Banquet

Our annual Gamefeed banquet will be held on February 10th (one week after the Superbowl). Tickets are $30.00 a person. During the week before the Gamefeed, we are looking for volunteers to help prepare the meal. Game donations are appreciated. Gamefeed T-shirts will be available.

Ice Fishing Derby

An Ice Fishing Derby has been scheduled for January 27th, with a no-ice date of February 24th. Look for more information on Woodvillerodandgun.com website.

SueBee's Foxwood Trip:

Sue Bush will be running her 3rd annual trip to Foxwood on February 25th, 2007. The bus will leave at noontime from the club and will return at 8 p.m, and seating is limited. Please reserve your seat by Feb 18th by signing up at the club ($15.00 per person).

WRG Member's Tip

Practicing catch/release and safe handling techniques will ensure that the trophy fish you catch today will be enjoyed again by someone else tomorrow.

How you handle the fish after landing affects it's survival after release. Here is a few suggestions to increase the chance of survival.

  • Do not wipe the fish with your hands or with a rag. That slime is essential for the fish's survival. Gently brushing snow off for a good photo-op is OK
  • Do not handle the fish by the gills or the eyes. Would you like to have someone shove their fingers up your nose or poke you in the eye?
  • Remove the hook quickly. The best way is to use a hook remover and a jaw spreader. If the hook is too far down the throat for easy removal you can just cut the leader. The hook will dissolve and the fish will survive for another day.
  • Get the fish back into the water as quickly as you can, if the fish is lethargic, gently rocking it in the water back and forth will help to revive it.

Thoughts and Prayers

Our thoughts and prayers are with Laura Nardini, Frank Wylie Jr, Helen Paul, and Greg Montalbano.

New members, if you need to complete your 3 work details, we still have some functions coming up that would help fulfill this obligation. Remember, anytime we have a function at the hall, there is a job to be done.

Ongoing, we can order jackets, shirts, etc. If you are interested in looking at these items please contact the club (508-435-4148). We have orange and green hats on hand, now embroidered ($8), and the newest item is a camouflaged version ($12), two styles. Please contact Cherryl if you would like to purchase a club jacket or other article of clothing. The bartenders can help with the hats, as they are usually in stock at the club.
