Happy New Year! As we enter the year 2009, we wish everyone health, happiness and prosperity. As you can see from the calendar of events, we have a full year ahead of us. We are presenting many opportunities to meet new folks and have some fun while supporting our club. Here's looking forward to seeing you in 2009!

We'll fill you in on Superbowl Sunday and the fishing derby in our next issue. If anyone has any stories or news they would like to share with everyone, please contact a member of the of the Message staff. Plus, if you would like to join the Message committee, we welcome new members and new ideas.

Sock Call:

Get well wishes to Bob Pratt of Montana and Earle Pratt. We hope you all are on the road to recovery soon. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

A Tribute To:

Our former President, Dennis R. Smith, 65, of Framingham, who died Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, after a long illness. Born in Framingham, son of the late Edwin R. and Regina (Cudak) Smith, he was a lifelong resident of Framingham. He was a graduate of Framingham South High School, and was a dispatcher for more than 40 years in the family business, Smittys Towing Service in Framingham. He was a member of the Framingham Lodge of Elks B.P.O.E. #1264 and a longtime, life member of the Woodville Rod and Gun Club, where he served as president for over 10 years. During his years, Dennis enjoyed spending time at the many functions we had and he assisted in putting in place some new traditions, like our Thanksgiving day dinner. Dennis enjoyed attending the Children functions and loved watching the kids dunk for apples at our annual Children's Halloween party and dishing out the ice cream at the Kids Christmas party.

Dennis is survived by three brothers, Edward Smith of Framingham, Walter Smith and his wife, Annie, of Uxbridge, and Robert Cudak of Westminster; two nieces; and two nephews. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1818, Memphis, TN 38101-9903.

Thank you Dennis for all you accomplished during your terms as President at Woodville Rod and Gun. You truly will be missed.

Tip of the Hat:

Hats off to Greg Leal for a 175lb, 9 point taken in east Hopkinton

Farts in the Wind:

Congratulations to Lee Wright for successfully taking a pee while three deer ran by…

Certified Scales

Are you fishing Lake Whitehall? Catch the monster? Don't want to kill the fish? The club has your answer. We have certified scales and affidavits for the Mass Sport Fishing Award program. Over a certain size (see the abstracts) will get you a silver pin, the largest will earn a gold pin and a free dinner! Scales are accessible when the clubhouse is open.

Annual Blood Drive

Give Pints for Half-Pints Our annual blood drive has been scheduled for March 29, 2009. Frank Wylie organizes this event each year with Children's Hospital in memory of Laura Nardini. Please come and show your support and donate a pint for the half pints.

First Meat Shoot of the Year

We had a great turn out for such short notice and was very successful. Thank you to everyone who came down to support the club. We are looking forward to the upcoming Chicken Shoot on 2/22. We might be looking at starting at 3:00pm rather than the normal 4:00pm start. You can call the club house to verify the start time. Or watch your emails for notices.

Last call for Dues

Please remember that the dues are now $90.00 until 1/31/2009. If you have a hardship paying your dues this year, please contact someone from the membership committee. We'd rather work it out with you than loose a valuable member.

If you have turned 65 and have 5 years of membership you are entitled to a life membership. Please contact the club if this applies to you.

Notices of upcoming events being sent via emails

Do you have an email address? Would you like to be notified via email about upcoming events? Please include your email address when you pay your dues this year. Or send an email to remillard_karen@emc.com and we'll add you to the database.

New members, if you need to complete your 3 work details, we still have some functions coming up that would help fulfill this obligation. Remember, anytime we have a function at the hall, there is a job to be done.

Ongoing, we can order jackets, shirts, etc. If you are interested in looking at these items please contact the club (508-435-4148). We have orange and green hats on hand, now embroidered ($8), and the newest item is a camouflaged version ($12), two styles. Please contact Cherryl if you would like to purchase a club jacket or other article of clothing. The bartenders can help with the hats, as they are usually in stock at the club.

We added member function pictures! When new pictures have been added to our website, check them out at: www.woodvillerodandgun.com and click on the "Gallery".
