- Our next issue will have more details about the game feed. However we would like to thank everyone who donated game to this function. Our freezers are full!! J And a heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed their time to this event. Look for more details in the next issue.
- This year we are having an Easter egg hunt, April 19th 10am-12pm. Look for a sign up sheet at the club. Deadline is April 12th for registration. You may call the club and we will register your child for the Egg hunt. The public is welcome to attend.
- The January 25th Ice-Fishing derby:
The Ice-Fishing derby got off to a sound start with at least 12 inches of ice on Lake Whitehall, and for the fisherman, they started their day with a hearty breakfast at 5 a.m. at the club. Thank you to our cooks and helpers… The derby ran from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m., and everyone had a good time. For those who got to the lake, they received a spectacular sunrise on the ice. For those who arrived later, they got to see not just adults on the lake, but lots of kids with their families enjoying a nice day fishing.
There is one funny story to be told. Seems that one of the fishing man caught a fish, good size one too. Cleaned it and was washing it off in the ice hole and opps… dropped it back into the water. J now that’s a fish story if I ever heard one!!!
For the 85 registered fishermen, the goal was to catch the longest pickerel, the longest perch, and the heaviest bass. The winners were Peter Augustino, with a 20 and 3/4 inch pickerel, Tim Crane with a 13 and 1/2 inch perch, and Jeff MacDonald with a whopping 9 lb, 8 ounce bass that was 23 inches long and had a girth of 24 inches! A tip of the hat to these fine winners, who sportingly returned their prize-winning fish to the lake to be caught another day!
Some other sportsmen were also lucky that day--with the Ice Fishing Derby Raffle: John Charbone won $300.00, Bud Jackson won $75.00, and Rusty Hewins won $25.00. Another tip of the hat to Rusty for donating his winnings to the Youth Scholarship fund.
Many thanks to our chefs and judges, and all that participated!
- The Super Bowl Sunday party:
With everyone watching two large screen TV's while feasting on Chinese food; we were all having a fun time cheering for our favorite teams and commercials! For our annual TV raffle, Steve Galuzzo won a wide-screen TV. Congratulations Steve!
Many thanks to Karen --for coordinating the food, and to Brad --who provides us with a new TV each year!
We’ve started having Steak or Chicken shoots on Sunday’s again. This is a fun time for all and at the end of the shoots we have a meat raffle. They start at 4:00 and generally end by 6:00. Children are always welcome. So please join us some Sunday afternoon. Call the club and find out when the next shoot is scheduled.
- Lj's Sporting tips: Tip for keeping your hands warm and dry while ice fishing: Bring a towel or rag (to dry your hands) and wear mittens (not-gloves) with hand warmers inside them.
- To all the hunters, fishing men and women out there. Care to share any hunting or fishing stories? We’d be happy to listen and publish your story in the Message and put it on the web page. Come to the member meetings and share your stories!! Congrats to all of you who hit your mark during the hunting season!!
- Don’t forget Trap shooting on Sunday afternoons. We start around 1:30. Even with this spell of cold weather, we have had quite a few participants. Come on down and join in the fun.
- Ongoing, we can order jackets, either spring or winter. If you are interested in looking at these items please keep in contact with the club (508-435-4148). We are taking orders for dungaree shirts. Stop by the club and fill out an order form. The green hats are in now. Members price for hats is still $5.00.
