Meetings held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday, Monthly at 8:00pm Calendar of Events
Condolences: We are sending our sincerest Condolences to the families of Minor Shepard, Charlie Robinson, and Jeff LeClaire. Annual Ice Derby: We had an absolutely perfect day for ice fishing which helped create the largest attended derby in club history. Sunny, not too cold, and a very small breeze made for ideal conditions for people to get together and have fun on the ice. A total of 95 anglers of all ages signed in for a chance at the big prize. The $400 first place for bass went to Mike Perkins, the $200 second place went to Justin Hayes. And the $100 third place went to our own Chris Clarke. The first, second, and third place for pickerel all went to Mike Cooney for a total of $700. The $100 prize for the longest perch went to George "Kiva King" Munchbach. While at the judge's station at the boat ramp I was visited by the local EPO (warden) and we had a discussion about 4-wheelers and snowmobiles. According to law, 4-wheelers are not allowed at any time on state park lands and waters, and snowmobiles can be used on the ice, but only when ice fishing. Just a note to any who may have a question about 4-wheelers and Lake Whitehall. And on another note, if any of you saw the article in the Metro West News, it was only a slip of the tongue when I referred the derby as "my" derby, and apologize to all. If you missed the article it is still available online at www.wickedlocal.com/hopkinton/news/x142936865. Lee J. Wright - Vice President, Chairman Sporting Committee Winners from the mailing raffle was Jessica Tierney 1st prize, Paul Harlow 2nd prize, unfortunately we do not have the name for 3rd prize. Hopkinton Food Bank: The Hopkinton food bank needs help. Their shelves are extremely low right now. There are two bins in the clubhouse for donations. Please check any expiration dates before donating. There is a list at the club of suggested items. Game Feed 2008 The annual game feed was held on Saturday Feb. 9. The fires were burning on the hill at the fire pit, a variety of flavors eminated from the kitchen. For two - three days, Ed Grant, Karl Dakai and their crew worked on perfecting the recipes they were going to use at Woodville's annual game feed. This festive event began at 6:30 with the appetizers, stuffed mushrooms, smoked pheasant, goose pate, venison wrapped in bacon and venison/elk/wild boar & buffalo summer sausage w/crackers. The appetizers were followed by a wild turkey soup and bear stew. As this course finished up the cooks were ready to send out the following in no special order: frog legs, venison cutlet marsala, elk meatballs in a tasty sauce, baked pheasant, venison enchilada casserole, wild boar porketta, bear tacos, bear kabobs, fried fish, elk sauerbraten, apple cider rabbit, mystery duck (raspberry sauce), and venison shepherds pie. It was delightful to see so many returning folks, and amazingly we had quite a few woman and young folks rounding out the attendees. We served aproximately 160 folks and had over 30 members volunteering their time to make this years event another success. Many thanks to Ed and Karl and everyone that helped in the kitchen, cutting meat, pots and pans, serving, selling raffle tickets, emceeing, emptying trash, parking cars, making signs, setting up the hall, cooking at the firepit, peeling and chopping veggies, and the list goes on. This is a tremendous effort and many hands and man hours go into this event. We also have to thank our bartenders, for keeping everyone from being parched between the courses!! Superbowl Sunday Although our Patriots did not win this year, the game was nail biting, on the edge of your seat for the whole game. The food was awesome, with a variety from comfy foods like Sheppard's Pie, 5 foot long sandwiches, porketta, potato casserole, salads, a hearty winter stew, meatballs, and many appetizers and desserts, all delicious. Thank you to all who donated food and participated in a fun day. And thank you to Kim and Boo for putting this all together.
