Chili Cook Off

The HPTA sponsored a Chili Cook-off at Woodville Rod and Gun. Congratulations to Lee Wright as he represented the club with his secret recipe of Venison Chili and took 1st place for "Most Original". There were 5 judges and many; many taste testers at this festive event. What a great way to spend a chilly Sunday afternoon! Many thanks for representing the club Lee, and thank you to Dean Crosby for the donation of venison.

Adult Ice Derby

Woodville Derby is a success!

The day started off with a hearty breakfast at the clubhouse. Thank you to the Harlow family for all their hard work in making the breakfast so successful. The weather could not have been better for our Annual Ice Fishing Derby which was held on January 23. We had the largest turnout ever and the fish were cooperating with over 47 fish weighed and measured. The first bass registered weighed 5.5 lbs but ultimately the winning bass weighed in at 6.8 lbs and was caught (and released) by member Paul Baptiste. Other first place winners were Mike Holdcraft, with a 21" pickerel and Steve Galluzzo with a 12 ¾" perch.

Over $3,000.00 in prizes was awarded at the Clubhouse after the derby. Special thanks to Lee Wright for laying the groundwork during past derbies, to all of the people who helped with this year's derby, and to Larry Jackson for taking over as Tournament Director. Thanks also to the folks that helped the Harlow family in the kitchen on prep night and the day of the breakfast.

Kids Ice Derby

The Kids Educational Ice Fishing Derby was held on Sunday, January 31, at Lake Whitehall. By all accounts it was an A+ Production.

Many adult volunteers drilled holes, set up, cooked, and oversaw the event to ensure that it ran smoothly. We wish to thank them all for their time and effort. The ice was packed with happy children and families as we proceeded to surround the fish. Many prizes were awarded thanks to the support and generosity of our sponsors, David & Nick Keyes from Mass Wildlife, Fin & Feather, Bass Pro Shops, HT Enterprises, Stubby Steve, The Pikers and Iron Skippy Charters.

Attendees came from Worcester to Boston, many of whom had never even been on a frozen lake before. Winning fish were caught by Kevin Bianchi, Jason Brunar, Liam Busconi, Nick Cronin, Liam Doherty, Joe Fogarty, Matt LaFlash, Tim Lowell, Hailey Marszalek, Bella Montuori, Carolyn Monahan, Mike Papetti, Mary Jane Pratt, Zack Ritterbush, and Madeline Scannell.

Thanks to everyone who attended, and special thanks to Jackie Pratt and Larry Jackson for their organizational skills, which resulted in a job well done!

Super Bowl Sunday

It was a fun day at the clubhouse even though the Patriots were not in the Super Bowl. There was plenty of food and friends to go around. The winners of the TV's were: Sam Stratton, 46" TV and Rick Marchesi 40" TV. Congratulations!!

I'd like to add a big "thank you" to the folks that contributed in any and every way in providing the buffet spread that all got to enjoy. (I personally thank those diehards that stayed until the very end and lent a hand in cleaning up and putting the leftovers away).

NRA and Mass. State Gun Safety Certification

In order to get an FID card today, you must first be qualified by a licensed gun safety instructor. Woodville R & G is happy to say that we have someone with 30 years as an NRA and Mass. State Certified Instructor, to assist. He is qualified in Basic Pistol, Personal Protection and Rifle. Last month's class was for Basic Pistol in two groups of 5 students. These semi-private classes follow the NRA guide lines and result in State and NRA qualification. Sign up @ the club for the next class or call for more information @ 413-245-0308, ask for Al!
