General Information

Ice Fishing Derby

On February 28th, we held our last Ice Fishing Derby of the season on Lake Whitehall. The weather was mild and it actually felt warm for February! Breakfast was served starting at 5 a.m. and the derby itself was from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thanks to the entire kitchen help and the volunteer judges that help put this event on and to Greg Pratt for taking the reins.

Club Tidbit:

I (Lj) was having breakfast before going fishing. At about 7:30, Mr. Joe Pratt sat down for breakfast with me and told me the history of the mural in the main hall. According to Joe, the mural was first painted by Lewis Drawbridge back in '38. It took Lewis 4 months to paint it. Then in '59, R. Bolton did a $200.00 restoration. Looking at the mural, it appears that some more restorations have occurred since '59... And again is in need of restorations.

Ice Fishing Derby Winners

The winners were:

  • Lane Marks with a 11 1/2 inch perch
  • Don Creswell, with a 5 1/4 lb bass
  • Paul Baptiste with a 16 1/2 inch pickerel
  • Bruce Pratt with the 50/50 raffle

Editor's Note: Seven days later (March 6th) the ice was 'out' on the lake...

March Events:

On March 6th, the Horseshoe banquet was held. Each horseshoe player was entitled to bring one guest, and each had a choice of Prime Rib and Lobster. If their preference was only Lobster then they received two. And the same for Prime Rib. The night ended with a huge raffle. It seemed like everybody won something! Thank you to Priscilla & Brad Lovejoy and Lisa Ambers for coordinating the meal and obtaining prizes. And thank you to the cooks and servers for putting on a wonderful meal.

On March 12th, a surprise 50th birthday party was held for Larry Jackson (Lj). Family, friends and many club members attended. A DJ was on hand that provided a night filled with music and dance. Happy Birthday, Larry! See 50's not so bad, eh?

The next night, (March 13th) we celebrated St. Patrick's Day! It was a traditional meal of baked and boiled smoked shoulder, cabbage, carrots, turnips, mustard and Liam's secret cream sauce. Then to top off the enjoyable evening we had over 30 dancers from the Mary McInerney School of Irish Dance perform traditional Irish dancing. With all of the shoes clicking in perfect rhythm, it seemed like RiverDance. A DJ also provided music during the night, which ended with everyone out on the dance floor. Thank you to everyone that participated and especially Liam for all his work and bringing in the dancers!

April Events:

On April 3rd, we had our first Porketta of the year. It was a good turnout. 79 tickets were sold and although we planned for many more. We still made a profit and had a wonderful meal. And even had Porketta's left over to sell. Thank you to everyone who helped in making this event a success.

For Safety's Sake...

Please be sure not to leave anything behind on any of the ranges you may use. It not only helps keep the property in order, but prevents any mishaps. Recently someone found live ammo at the rifle range. Many of our children like to explore the ranges when not being used for used ammo and clay pigeons. We certainly wouldn't want them getting hurt finding live ammo.

Lj's tip:

My two favorite tools are WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't, use duct tape.
