Pasta Dinners

We held our 3rd Pasta Night on February 24th and what an awesome turnout we had. It's a great deal for $6.00 - all you can eat. From Appetizers, salad, pasta, Mac-n-Cheese followed by desert. No one went away hungry that was for sure. Sharon Farnsworth and Dave Laquidara head up this event and have many helpers, Thank you to all who are involved in making this a successful event. The next pasta night will be on March 31st from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. In case of date changes please call the club at 508-435-4148 for more details. You can also obtain information on our website at www.woodvillerodandgun.com or check out www.hopnews.com.

Super Bowl Sunday

Although the Patriots didn't make it to the Super Bowl we still had an awesome turnout for the Super Bowl Dinner. We had over 60 attendees. This year the menu was changed from our usual Chinese food to a Roast Pork Dinner with Italian Potatoes, Broccoli Normandy, Salad, deserts and appetizers. We hope that everyone had a good time. Each year Brad Lovejoy heads up a TV raffle. What a deal, for $20 per ticket, and only 100 tickets sold you could win a 52" TV that is only one year old. Thanks to Brad and Priscilla for organizing this raffle and taking the time to search out and purchase the best TV. This year Chris Riley sold the winning ticket to a co-worker at Southworth-Milton Cat. Congratulations!

Movie Night

Looking for a cheaper way to get out to the movies??? Well, how about coming down to the club and rubbing elbows with fellow members while watching a movie Woodville style. I believe the first pick for a movie is going to be a comedy. Admission is free, and we will have appetizers to purchase - onion rings, chicken wings (regular and hot), and mozzarella sticks. The show begins at 7:00pm. Come on down and support your club! The first showing will be on April 5th.

Dart League

Some interest has been shown in starting a dart league. We've been doing some investigating and would like to give it a try. We will need 9 members per team. If you are interested in joining, please stop by the club to sign up or give us a call. If we hit the mark with enough people, we'll get things rolling. Stay tuned!

Horseshoe Banquet

The Woodville Rod and Gun Horseshoe Banquet was held on Saturday, March 4th. As is the tradition, a Prime Rib dinner and boiled lobsters were served. This was accompanied by baked potatoes (or were those mini footballs?), broccoli and rolls and butter. There was an array of appetizers before the meal, and dessert was "make your own sundaes". The winners were announced and then a raffle held. Thank you to Marcel Remillard and his kitchen helpers for putting on a fabulous dinner, and to Brad and Priscilla Lovejoy for keeping the stats and putting everything together this past season.

Lj's tip for January:

Now is the time of year to sign up for a Hunter Safety Course. Better yet, sign up with a friend!

Game Feed:

Every year the excitement grows as the time for the Game Feed nears. Folks start wondering what they might expect to be on the menu this year! Well, this year was looking a bit gloomy. Two weeks before the feed, our situation changed. The President, Dennis Smith, stepped in to see that things got done. Unfortunately, he ended up not being able to complete the task due to health reasons. He started making phone calls, and so the race began. Time was clicking away and the date of the feed was getting closer. But, as is Woodville tradition, we had some folks step up and took the reins, and rallied the troops. Our hats go off to Karl Dakai and Ed Grant for taking control, and keeping things running smoothly in the kitchen.

Our annual game feed was held on Saturday February 11, 2006. Although it was not a sell out this year, (probably due to the storm that was coming), it was still a success. This particular year was a bit different than past years. The menu was developed by our members and their own recipes, all of which will be included in our cookbook. The member participation this year was the largest ever. We'd like to acknowledge everyone who pitched in to make this event a successful and fun evening. Thank you to all who donated the venison, bear and fish. The menu was:

  • Venison Stew by Karl Dakai
  • Bear Chili by Lee Wright
  • Bear Stew by Karl Dakai
  • Elk Stuffed Cabbage by Marcel Remillard
  • Rabbit Cacciatore by Garrett Smith
  • Buffalo Onions and Mushrooms by Kray Small
  • Elk Ravioli by Betty and Bruce Pratt
  • Ostrich Meatloaf by Frank Wylie and Chris Riley
  • Venison Sausage and Peppers by Rick Marchesi
  • Pheasant Cordon Bleu by Maggie Charpentier
  • Venison Stroganoff by Lisa Ambers
  • Buffalo Stuffed Peppers by Ed Grant
  • Venison Sheppards Pie by Dave Laquidara
  • Yak Steaks by Garret Smith
  • Buffalo with Mushroom Gravy Ed Grant
Appetizers:
  • Venison Sausage Calzone
  • Goose Teriyaki
  • Stuffed Mushrooms
  • Smoked Fish
  • Sweet and Sour Meatballs
So not to miss anyone who helped at this function we'd like to thank each and every one of you. This includes the folks that set up and broke down the hall, the folks cleaning the pots and pans, the dessert makers, all the servers, those of you that took out the trash, the raffle ticket sellers, smoked fish crew, anyone that pitched in, even in the smallest way, your help is much appreciated. This function truly showed what we want our club to portray, the type of people that are willing to step up to the plate in a pinch, and work as a team to make it happen. We couldn't have done this without everyone's help. Congratulations to all the prize winners!

Ice Fishing Derby:

Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not comply with our wishes for ice for a derby. Congratulations to the winners of the raffle that was drawn on the no ice date (2/25). The grand prize winner was Patrick Lynch!!! 2nd prize went to Lillian Wylie and 3rd to Dennis Stratton's brother. Let's hope next year brings us better weather!

Change in Bar Manager:

Mike Collins was voted in at our 2/7/06 meeting to become the new Bar Manager. We would like to thank Lenny Main for his time served as Bar Manager. We appreciate everything you did for the club this past year.

General Information:

If you have turned 65 and have 5 years of membership you are entitled to a life membership. Please contact the club if this applies to you.
