April 4, 2009 - Comedy Night Comedy Night Tickets on sale at the club house. Get your tickets early; this event is sold out each time. Only 150 tickets will be sold. $15 per person includes a meal. Meal is at 6:00pm, comedians start at 7:30pm. Get Well Wishes: Get well wishes to Wendy Grass, Joe Pratt and Laura Donovan. Hope you all are on the road to recovery. Horseshoe Banquet: The annual Horseshoe banquet was held on Saturday night. The meal was excellent, Prime Rib and Lobster, mashed potatoes and a veggie. Thank you Frenchie, Edie & Rick Vincuilla and Rick Purdy for a wonderful meal. Thank you to Jay and Neil for serving and a huge thank you to Priscilla Lovejoy for the delicious appetizers and desserts and for organizing this banquet each year. Open Water Coming Soon:

Our annual blood drive has been scheduled for March 29, 2009. Frank Wylie will update us on the results in the next edition of the Message. This event is held in conjunction with Children's Hospital in memory of Laura Nardini. Thank you for all your support. Conservation Camp Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp, August 9-21, 2009. Applications are now being accepted. Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp is a two-week experience allowing youth to develop skills and confidence that will last a lifetime. The camp is a unique outdoor experience offering a balanced program of conservation education and instruction in outdoor recreation activities. The camp's programs introduces young people to the ethical concepts and knowledge essential to a lifetime of properly enjoying our natural resources and the leisure activities that depend on their careful stewardship. Boys and girls aged 13 to 17 years old who enjoy outdoor activities and want to learn more about the environment are eligible to attend. Enthusiastic outdoorsmen and women today, they will become tomorrow's leaders in safeguarding our outdoor heritage. The club sponsors 2 children each year. Applications are at the clubhouse and names need to be decided upon before 5/1/09. If you are interested in sending your child to camp this year, please submit the application ASAP. Scholarship
The Woodville Rod & Gun Club of Hopkinton is offering a $500.00 scholarship to a student in the area who shows an interest in environmental education and is pursuing a degree in wildlife, habitat, fisheries or forestry management, environmental, wildlife or marine biology at an accredited college. If anyone is interested in winter jackets, short sleeve denim shirts, or any other type of clothing, please contact Cherryl Barrett by stopping by, leaving a message at the club, or sending an email to: cherryl_b@hotmail.com. A small deposit will be required when ordering depending upon the price of the article of clothing.
Other notes... When you are sponsoring someone for membership, please have the application fee handed in with the application form. The membership committee will review applications at their next scheduled meeting. The Membership committee will then schedule an appointment for the interview. If you have any questions, please contact someone on the Membership committee. The committee meets on the second Thursday of the month from 7:30pm to 8:15pm. New members, if you need to complete your 3 work details, we still have some functions coming up that would help fulfill this obligation. Remember, anytime we have a function at the hall, there is a job to be done. Ongoing, we can order jackets, shirts, etc. If you are interested in looking at these items please contact the club (508-435-4148). We have orange and green hats on hand, now embroidered ($8), and the newest item is a camouflaged version ($12), two styles. Please contact Cherryl if you would like to purchase a club jacket or other article of clothing. The bartenders can help with the hats, as they are usually in stock at the club. Hall Rentals:
A deposit and contract are required to hold a date. Deposits are refunded at the end of the function once the hall has been cleaned. Children’s party rentals can be on Wednesday's or Thursday's only. Sunday's will be restricted to Member rentals only. If there is any food out or being prepped, then Dogs are not allowed in the building. When a member is renting the hall, the member has to be there from the beginning to the end.

Time to get out the tackle boxes and clean up the lures. The boxes need re-stocking of all the lures that found a log under the surface. Then re-line the reels and grease them. Boats need to be uncovered and serviced, new plugs, maybe a power washing. Tie that new pattern, clean the fly line, and make up new leaders. Winter blessed us with plenty of ice this season and there were a lot of good fishing weekends. But soon the ice will melt and we'll be out in the boats before you know it. Time to call your charter Captain, and make your reservations for spring stripers and the bluefish when they arrive in June. The streams, rivers, and lakes will be receiving trout, and the bass will start sitting on their beds. I've got the itch and am feeling the need to cast to open water.
