New Business
- If anyone knows of a member who is sick or hospitalized, please let us know. You can leave a message at 508-435-4148.
- Applications for the conservation camp are now available at the club or on our website. This 2 week overnight summer camp for girls and boys 13 -17 years of age offers a program of conservation education and instruction in outdoor recreation skills. It introduces youth to the ethical concepts and knowledge essential to a lifetime of properly enjoying our natural resources and the leisure activities that depend on their careful stewardship. Subjects include: forestry, soil conservation, wildlife management, archery, orienteering, basic camping and more. A state approved Basic Hunter Education Course and Boating Safety Course is also part of the program. Program is operated by Mass. Junior Conservation Camp, Inc with the assistance of state and local environmental agencies.
- To the membership of the club:
It has come to my attention that the web site had posted a thank you to me for donating the smoker-pit that I built this past winter.
I welcome that thanks, but I didn't 'donate' the smoker to the club.
I did offer that the club and it's members have full use of the smoker in exchange for storing the smoker at the club (where else would I use it anyway?). I apologize for any confusion. I am working on a set of wheels for the smoker to make it more mobile, but it will be chained to a tree!!!
I'm also planning to do up some ribs, briskets, and chickens in a couple of months.
I'll do this on a Sunday afternoon and ask for a small donation. The proceeds will go toward the scholarship fund.
Trout is being stocked and the stripers will be running soon, so tight lines and big fish,
Lee J. Wright
- So far this year we’ve been very busy. As you read in last month’s paper we had our Annual Game Feed.
- We then had a Porketta Dinner on March 29th. This turned out to be another successful event. We’d like to say “Thank You” to everyone involved. There were so many people involved in making this event happen. We won’t list any names for fear of missing someone. But we do want everyone to know just how much the club appreciates their dedication and support.
- On Sundays, we were holding our Chicken/Porketta shoots and Steak shoots. This year we added a meat raffle at the end of the shoots. We had a great turnout for all of them. The club appreciates everyone’s participation in them. They are over now, but you can look forward to them starting up again in the fall.
- We will report on the Comedy night and the Easter Egg Hunt in our next issue.
- We would like to tell Dave Laquidara “Thank you” for all the signs he has made for us over the years. David does a wonderful job on the signs. Just take a look around the club. You’ll see them everywhere.
- And “Thank you” to Dennis Smith. Dennis is forever coming up with ideas for functions to make the club money. Most of the shoots this year were last minute suggestions.
- Recently another member has suggested having breakfast served at the club on Sunday’s. The club used to do this many years ago. We are looking into this and will notify everyone as soon as something has been decided. If anyone is interested in volunteering to cook breakfast let us know. Sounds like it could be fun for all.
- Money has been appropriated to the Archery Ranges. It’s in the planning stages now, we will update you once everything has been confirmed. Hopefully we will have 3 stations to work with in the near future.
- Lj's Sporting tips:
- April - After spending a day fishing, leave your tackle box open in a warm, dry space to prevent rusty hooks.
- May - Deep sea: Bottom fishing can be very productive. Stripers (mostly smallies) arrive in the canal.
Fresh water: Trout fishing is still very productive. Bass returning from spawning are ravenous.
- To all the hunters, fishing men and women out there. Care to share any hunting or fishing stories? We’d be happy to listen and publish your story in the Message and put it on the web page. Come to the member meetings and share your stories!! Congrats to all of you who hit your mark during the hunting season!!
- Don’t forget Trap shooting on Sunday afternoons. We start around 1:30. Even with this spell of cold weather, we have had quite a few participants. Come on down and join in the fun.
- Ongoing, we can order jackets, either spring or winter. If you are interested in looking at these items please keep in contact with the club (508-435-4148). We are taking orders for dungaree shirts. Stop by the club and fill out an order form. The green hats are in now. Members price for hats is still $5.00.
- Hall Rentals: Member $75.00 plus $75.00 deposit, Non-Member $125.00 Hall, $50.00 bartender, plus $75.00 deposit.
A deposit and contract are required to hold a date. Deposits are refunded at the end of the function once the hall has been cleaned. Children’s party rentals can be on Wednesday or Thursday only.
