Meetings held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday, Monthly at 8:00pm Calendar of Events
The Club would like to express its deepest condolences to Liam Shalvey and his family, and Rachel Leal and her family. Our prayers are with Susan Bush and her family. Nardini Benefit Dinner Many thanks to our roast beef cooks Frenchie and Frank for providing a wonderful meal for the Nardini fund raiser. We also need to thank the many folks that pitched in on making this evening such a memorable event. A lot of work and effort went into putting this event together. We would also like to thank all the businesses that donated goods for the raffles. Everyone cheered as a check for over $9000.00 was provided to Geno, and there wasn't a dry eye in the club when a custom fly rod, with an inscription for memorializing Laura was presented to Geno. Our thoughts and prayers will always be with the Nardini family. Trap Shoot This month, the WRG trap shooters provided an invitational shoot and we were the uncontested winners for trap shooting! Many thanks to Fran Sowa for setting up this invitational trap shoot and the après trap shoot meal! Everyone had a good time and respected the rules, included rule 13 (see bulletin board on trap range). Horseshoe Banquet As always we celebrated the horseshoe banquet with prime rib and lobster, but this year we were entertained by Philbin as our MC for the night. Many thanks go to Priscilla and her handsome assistant, Bradford, for coordinating all of this year's events. Congratulations to Tom Stevens for winning the coveted ball point pen award! Spring Cleanup 4/28/07 We are looking for volunteers to sign up for club cleanup day. There will be a sign posted at the club house. Please come down to help clean up the grounds, trap area, inside the club house, etc. There are many areas that need attention this year. New members, please plan on coming down to do one of your work details.
Conservation Camp The Massachusetts Sportsmen's Junior Conservation Camp program is open to boys and girls aged 13 to 17. Woodville Rod & Gun sponsor 2 children each year. Please get your applications in as soon as possible so they can be reviewed by the conservation committee. The camp is a unique outdoor experience offering a balanced program of conservation education and instruction in outdoor recreation activities. The camp's programs introduces young people to the ethical concepts and knowledge essential to a lifetime of properly enjoying our natural resources and the leisure activities that depend on their careful stewardship. CPR Class: Cathy Collins will be teaching another CPR class. There have been several changes over the past few months. Stayed tuned for further information. Equipment Donation: Marge Wright, wife of recently deceased member Alfred Wright, has donated a meat grinder and band saw to the club. These will be available to members for processing venison. Talk of having a weekly "butchering day" during the hunting season has already begun. Thank you Mr. President: At this time I would like to extend a much-deserved thank you to our past President Dennis Smith. Dennis presided over the club for 16 years. During his tenure he spearheaded many projects and events, the most notable being the Thanksgiving open house, which is now an annual event when we invite anyone, public included, to come to the clubhouse to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner with no charge. This one event exemplifies his concern for people. He also pushed for the downstairs shooting range to be upgraded and major improvements to the cellar. He could be seen working at all of our events, from peeling potatoes for the game feed to calling cards at a chicken shoot. He was always coming up with ideas to make a few extra dollars for the club, lobster raffles and fishing rod raffles just to name a couple. I am jealous of his ability to communicate with the children of the club's members. He always would take the time to talk to each of them and they would always have a story for him. He also was concerned with the well being of our members and their families. I could ramble on and on with his many contributions and attributes. Dennis has been having a few health problems for a few months now and the big gray Cadillac has not graced the parking lot for some time. The Bridge Club also has missed his presence. I am proud to have served as his Vice President in the past. Godspeed and get well.
