General Information

Cookbooks:

As mentioned in last month's Message, the club is going to produce our own Cook Book. We have formed a committee (looking for help too) to work on this project. What we need from you are your recipies for cooking game and fish that all you hunters and fishing people pass on to others explaining the way you prepare your exotic dishes. Recipies for regular types of food are also being accepted along with appetizers and desserts. So let's hear from all you ice fishing and hunting camp cooks.

Calendars:

We are also looking into making a ‘Woodville’ calendar. This calendar will have all our events listed along with meeting dates and times. Any photo donations for the calendar would be greatly appreciated. We will be sure to get the photo back to you.

Guest Speaker

This month, Jim Barry, of Barry's Bait Shop in Westborough gave an excellent presentation on Bass Fishing equipment at one of our club meetings in May. I (Lj) never knew that there was so much information about fishing line, and I was impressed to hear that some northern Bass anglers still use open-face reels. Jim, thank-you for the gifts that we raffled off!

Horseshoe Pits

This month, a tip of the hat goes to Brad and Priscilla Lovejoy, for leading a team to repair the horseshoe pits. Working with "recycled" wood from torn down neighborhood decks and wood donated from Garner's saw mill, several volunteers spent more than 120 hours fixing up these pits. Thanks Brad, Priscilla, and the weekend volunteers - the pits look great!

Comedy Night

About 100 people showed up for the "Comedy Show and a Meal" night. Tickets were $15.00 each, and the meal consisted of:

  • Deviled Eggs
  • Veggie Platter
  • Dave's Deluxe Salad
  • Italian Roast Potatoes
  • Roast Pork Loins

The comedians consisted of

  • Tim Kaelin - who did the intros
  • Jerry Caruso - A very talented singing comedian
  • Bob Niles - A "Jimmy Durante" type character that wore a baseball cap and developed his whole act from working with the audience. Bob was the comedian to receive the coveted orange Woodville R&G Hunter's cap. Congratulations Bob!

    Lj's Sporting Tip:

    • If you are in a Bass Fishing derby, according to Jim Barry, use new fishing line so that you don't have to worry about the quality of the line.
    • Now is the time to apply for a Massachusetts Doe Hunting Permit.
    • Recreational Cod fishing lengths are now 21 inches, Haddock are now 19 inches.
    • Using a little Stable® gasoline preservative can prevent a lot of carburetor problems…

    General Information

I, Dennis, with permission from the club, am looking into making money in order to purchase a Defibrillator for the club. As of this writing we have raised some money towards the purchase. Once we have raised about $1500.00 we will start contacting companies that sell the machines. I have already received a lot of information in regards to the operation of these machines. As a club we found out that we qualify for a grant that might cover as much as half the cost.

    Next Month:

    Kid's Fishing Derby!

Don’t forget, we have a website! Check it out at: www.woodvillerodandgun.com. If you would like to post anything to the website please send it to Dennis@eol.com.
