Friendly reminder - We are always looking for help at the club events and functions. If you need to complete your 3 new member details, this is a way to do that. You see the club events published in this article. Mark them on your calendars as a reminder, check with your sponsor to see if anything is coming up or stop by the club and see what's happening. An extra pair of hands always makes the chore easier, and more fun!

Comedy Night

Where else can you get a meal and comedy show of three comedians for $15.00? This is a great time and the food was great! We had an awesome turn out. It's possible we will have another one in the fall. Thank you to all that helped make this another fun time.

Seniors Lobster Dinner

It started with George Robinson wanting to donate his 35 lobster dinner winnings to the senior citizens. When several generous organizations and individuals stepped forward, a meal was provided for 130 seniors! For the complete story, see www.hopnews.com. Many thanks to all that helped put on this event.

Trout Derby

On April 14th, members from the Woodville Rod and Gun Club, with permits from the state, added our trout to the state's trout stocking in Lake Whitehall. The weather was perfect, and the stocking, which was done by boat, was completed in record time.

On April 15th, final preparations were underway for the annual fisherman's breakfast. From 5 to 10 a.m., breakfast was served to 75 participants by the crew of Bear, Skip, Robin, and others. After breakfast, I (Lj) showed up at the same lake that only four weeks prior (March 19th) had our Ice-fishing derby. With early morning temperatures starting to rise above freezing, I was wondering if the gas lines in my boat motor had frozen! But my boat motor eventually did start, and I eventually caught up with Team Truell, who's dreams of a trout derby dynasty ended with a empty stringer. Temperatures for the day eventually did warm up, and a fun day was enjoyed by all. A group gathered again this year for merriment at Pout rock, along with their grills and refreshments. By 1 p.m., the derby was over and we all returned to the club to recognize our trout derby and raffle winners. See our website at www.WoodvilleRodandGunClub.com for some great pictures and captions!

The winners of the trout derby were:

  • 1st place - Oliver Clough, with a 16 inch trout, winning $300.00.
  • 2nd place - Gary Bogley, with a 15 7/8 inch trout, winning $198.00
  • 3rd place - Tom Stevens, with a 15 3/8 inch trout, winning $75.00

The winners of the Trout Derby raffle were:

  • 1st Place - Maggie Carpectan, with a $300.00 winning
  • 2nd Place - Frank Torento, with a $75.00 winning
  • 3rd Place - Brian Monihan, with a $25.00 winning

Many thanks to those classy winners that put their winnings on the bar!

    Club Cleanup

We would like to thank everyone that was involved with the club cleanup. The grounds around the club and inside the club are now ready to be enjoyed for the summer months, and looks marvelous!! In spite of the pending rain, we managed to accomplish a lot before it started. We would like to thank Ken McMullen for bringing down a boom truck. This allowed us to trim some dead wood from the trees and replace some burned out lights.

Please be sure, especially since this work has been done, to clean up after yourselves when using the shooting range, archery range, trap range, picnic area, etc. What you leave behind should not have to be cleaned up by the next person to use the area, or anyone else for that matter. Please be respectful of each other.

    Presentation at the Club

The Middlesex County League of Sportsman's Club, were guests of the Woodville Rod and Gun on Thursday, April 28th. Buster was the master of ceremonies for the evening. A plaque was awarded to Tom Becker (Lowell) for his outstanding leadership, and was presented to Tom by Mike Moss. Congratulations Tom! A slide presentation was presented by Mark Tisa from the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, on a Youth Pheasant Hunt that is going to be sponsored in the Month of September. The hunt is available to youths ages 12 - 17. Pamphlets are being printed and Buster will provide to club once they are ready. There will be 2,000 pheasants distributed amongst the clubs that step forward and want to participate in the hunt. The clubs will also be provided hunt kits and technical assistance. If interested in helping out, signing up your children, etc. please get in touch with Buster.

The presentation was attended by members from clubs in Littleton, Cambridge, Concord, Holliston and Marlboro, as well as members from Woodville. Thank you Buster for bringing this to Woodville, and thank you to the folks that provided the refreshments for the evening.

    Lj's Tip

Before assembling a two-piece rod, lubricate the connecting points with some facial oil that can be found along the sides of the nose. When taking apart a two-piece rod, twist and pull apart by grasping the rod and not by grasping the eyelets.
