Pasta Dinner and a Movie

On Wednesday April 26th, we tried the dinner and a movie theme. We had a fair number of folks join us for dinner, while a few hung around for the movie to follow. Pasta nights will be suspended for a while. It is getting a little warm in the kitchen with the nicer weather coming. As soon as they are to resume, we will let you know. We thank Kim Clark and Dave Laquidara and their crew for the work they did on this pasta night. And thank you to all that have made it happen over the past few months, Sharon Farnsworth, Richard, Davie, and everyone that has served, cleaned or collected at the door. We appreciate all your efforts in support of the club.

Movie Night

We are continuing with movie night. On Wednesday nights, stop by the club and catch a movie for free. Appetizers are for sale. Best deal in town.

Lj's tip for May:

Old fishing line can decay from sunlight, nicks from abrasive rocks, or twists causing your line to break at a much lower-pound test. Keep your line fresh and tight!

Trout Derby on April 15th

On Tuesday, April 11th, the WRG started stocking Lake Whitehall with $1500.00 of trout from Ben Generazio's farm, and then members donated another $315.00 for some prize trout - including twelve 5 pounders, and six 8 pounders! A tip of the hat to Frankie for organizing the membership donation bucket for these lunkers!

On Saturday morning (April 15th), breakfast was served starting at 5 a.m., with 21 dozen eggs, 18 lbs of bacon, 15 lbs of sausage, 2 large boxes of Bisquick, and 40 lbs of potatoes! A tip of the hat to Skip, for heading up the kitchen crew of Mikey Bear, Rick Purdy, Rick & Edie Vinculla, Brittney & Karen Remillard, Ken McMullen., Steve Monahan & sons, Kim & Boo Clark, Tom Steinkrauss and Cherryl Barrett and Frenchie Remillard!

This year the entrance fees were increased to $20.00, and the prize money increased accordingly with 88 participants. The prizes were:

  • First prize of $616.00 to Eric DeWolfe (17 5/8", 2.26#)
  • Second prize of $460.00 to Bob Woods (16 ½", 1.85#)
  • Third prize of $289.00 to Mike Jackson (15 7/8", 1.69#)

The Derby Raffle winners were:

  • First prize of $300.00 went to Paul MacDonald who donated $50 of his winnings to our Kids Derby (being held on May 20th) Thank you Paul!
  • Second prize of $75.00 went to Timmy Drawe
  • Third prize of $25.00 went to Terrie Jones

With the derby running from 6 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., we had a variety of weather - from rain to sun, and a fun day was enjoyed by all! Below is Frank Wylie and Karl Garner along with Tom and Penny Stevens enjoying the day.

Margaritaville Night and Kids Fishing Derby

Details about this event will be in the next issue, as well as the results of the Kids' Fishing Derby!

Club Cleanup

We had approximately 20+ folks show up for the club cleanup on April 29th. A big round of applause goes out to everyone that participated. With a lot of elbow grease and lots of cleaners, the club is shining inside and out! Thank you all for your hard work. As a reminder, this is a great way to get in your new member details! We will have another cleanup in August.

Please remember that what you bring down to the ranges, you are responsible to carry back out. Trash receptacles are located at the club house or please put in the dumpster. The ranges are for your enjoyment and it's not up to the next person using the range to clean up from the previous person. As a reminder, please remember to pick up any live ammo, as there are young children who love to go down and explore there.

Finance Committee

Due to the ever increasing fuel surcharges, the finance committee has met several times in order to find ways to increase the club's income. One discussion that is going on now is the possibility of increasing yearly dues. Please try to attend a meeting and give us your input. Your opinions matter. We are looking for any ideas to help increase revenue and defray costs that are out of our control.

Bass Derby?

Gary Hassett suggested having a Bass Derby this summer. Anyone interested in having a Bass Derby please contact the club or Gary Hassett.

General Information:

If you have turned 65 and have 5 years of membership you are entitled to a life membership. Please contact the club if this applies to you.

Friendly reminder - We are always looking for help at the club events and functions. If you need to complete your 3 new member details, this is a way to do that. You see the club events published in this article. Mark them on your calendars as a reminder, check with your sponsor to see if anything is coming up or stop by the club and see what's happening. An extra pair of hands always makes the chore easier, and more fun!
