Latest changes to the clubhouse:

We are happy to say that the bar floor has finally been replaced. Thank you to Rick Purdy who spent an entire day, Patriots Day, taking up the old tiles and grout. It was quite the challenge and not an easy task. The new floor went in the following day. It looks awesome. Also, we'd like to say Thank You to Mike Collins for his assistance in getting us a great price.

Trout Derby

The annual trout derby was a huge success this year with a great number of people showing up. The day opened with temps in the low 60's, but quickly climbed into the low 70's. There was only one small, lonely cloud that crossed the sky. Many fish were caught this year compared to past years. Stocking on Tuesday prior to the derby seems to work well for the catch rates. With 74 people signing for the derby the cash prizes were sizable. This year's winners were:

1st - Frank Wylie, $518
2nd - Richie Schiloski Jr., $370
3rd - Chris Riley, $222.

Thank you to all that helped make the derby another great event, the kitchen help for the breakfast, the guys that showed up with boats to stock the fish, the raffle ticket sellers (Frank out sells everyone!), and all others that pitched in.

Next year's trout stocking fund has been substantially increased to allow for a larger fish and larger quantity to be stocked.

Conservation Camp

It was easy this year to pick two kids to send to Junior Conservation Camp, as there were only three applicants. There is a grading system that was devised by a committee years ago that was chaired by Benny Tomlin which makes our job easier. A number of factors play into choosing who is to go: age, if the child is a members' son/daughter, are they a junior member, and if they had applied in previous years - to name a few.

This year we are sending Courtney Harlow, Paul Harlow's daughter, and Ryan Carmody, a Jr. Member. The camp consists of two weeks of learning outdoor skills. Some of the activities include orienteering (map and compass), basic camping, wildlife management, and conservation. They will receive certificates for attending the Hunter Safety and Boating Safety courses. From the reports from past attendees I wish I could go, but it is only for kid's ages 13 through 17, I'm way too old…

Margaritaville Night

Sixty something soles turned out to participate at Woodville's rendition of Margaritaville. The Tiki hut was adorned with bamboo and other appropriate décor and housed the DJ, who played fantastic music. Many dancers donned the dance floor throughout the night. There was a variety of food, all delicious, thank you to all who contributed. Many thanks to the decorators, as this is one event that takes many hours of decorating. I think even the animals enjoy partaking in this event. Thanks to Kim Clark for organizing this event.

Further Clubhouse Improvements

The membership at the May 6th meeting has chosen to pursue modifying the back side of the building. The idea is too extend the roof 5 feet, starting from the addition we put on in the 90's and run over to cover the rear entrance. This will be very useful during our outdoor events such as the Chicken BBQ and also take care of the icing on the steps problem in the winter. Anyone interested in helping with this project can contact Boo Clark or Phil Goodwin. A work party will be organized for this project. We encourage any new members to sign up for this work detail.

Blood Drive

Our annual blood drive is being held on June 8th 9:00am-4:00pm. There is a sign up list at the club, or contact Frank Wiley for more information at 508-364-3550. Let's see if we can double our donations from last year.

Kids Fishing Derby

We will report on this function in the next issue.

New members, if you need to complete your 3 work details, we still have some functions coming up that would help fulfill this obligation. Remember, anytime we have a function at the hall, there is a job to be done.

Ongoing, we can order jackets, shirts, etc. If you are interested in looking at these items please contact the club (508-435-4148). We have orange and green hats on hand, now embroidered ($8), and the newest item is a camouflaged version ($12), two styles. Please contact Cherryl if you would like to purchase a club jacket or other article of clothing. The bartenders can help with the hats, as they are usually in stock at the club.

We added member hunting pictures! When new pictures have been added to our website, check them out at: www.woodvillerodandgun.com and click on the "Gallery". If you would like to post anything to the website please send it to webmaster@woodvillerodandgun.com.
