Depending on the function, we may open the hall earlier. Summer hours end after Labor Day. Scholarship Award for 2005 The Woodville Rod and Gun Club has chosen Lindsay Flieger of 15 Teresa Road in Hopkinton as the recipient of the $500.00 environmental scholarship. Lindsay will be studying marine biology at the university of Connecticut in the fall. Horseshoe League The horseshoe pits were readied during Spring Cleanup, and the league started their season on May 4th. So far, it appears to be a challenging season for some. Hopefully, this will change as the weeks go by. Turkey Season The season opened for turkey hunting, and some of our folks were out there hoping to get the catch of the season. If you have a story to tell, please let us know so we can share . LJ's and LW's Tip Drawing a line through the points of a crescent moon will point to south on the horizon. Kid's Fishing Derby It was a bright and sunny morning for the annual Kid's Fishing Derby held at Pratt's Pond in Hopkinton, on Saturday June 4th. The pond had been stocked with fish, and the area trimmed and tidied up in expectation of the kids arriving the next morning to make their big catch. From the sounds of it, a wonderful time was had by all. Not sure that many fish were caught, but we've been told there were plenty of bull frogs, and the kids were given rides on four wheelers. Biggest Trout: Isabella Montouri Deep Sea Fishing Trip: We have a fishing trip sponsored by the club on Friday August 12th, there is still a lot of room available and we expect this trip to start filling up fast. Sign up is at the clubhouse; you must pay when you sign up. This trip is closed to the members until June 21nd, at which time it will open to the public. Don't be late and lose your seat. The club is paying for the bus. $50.00 per person. This is a great opportunity for new members to get to know your fellow members. We will be departing at 5:00 am that morning. The report that we've been hearing is that the cod are big with good numbers being caught this year and we expect all will have a good time. Taking a day off to go fishing beats work any day... Trap Shooting: The trap range is open on Sunday afternoons at 1:30 and is starting to get busy. New members get the first two boxes of shells free, this gives you the opportunity to come down and give this sport a try at no cost. This is a lot of fun and we strive to make novices feel comfortable (we were all novices at one time and know what it's like). Let the range officer (or anybody who's shooting) know it's your first time and you will get personal attention. Don't be shy; this sport is a lot of fun. The people with experience will explain the game, and give you pointers on how to bust the clays. Caution: this sport can be addicting… Fishing: The stripers and blues are back and people are going down and wetting their lines from New Hampshire to Rhode Island. Big fish are being reported everywhere along the Cape. Tight lines and BIG fish to all. General Information: If you have turned 65 and have 5 years of membership you are entitled to a life membership. Please contact the club if this applies to you. Friendly reminder - We are always looking for help at the club events and functions. If you need to complete your 3 new member details, this is a way to do that. You see the club events published in this article. Mark them on your calendars as a reminder, check with your sponsor to see if anything is coming up or stop by the club and see what's happening. An extra pair of hands always makes the chore easier, and more fun! Remember...
