Seafood Bake

With temperatures in the 70's and very little humidity, it was a perfect afternoon for an outdoor picnic. Add a half-chicken, a lobster, steamers, corn, and mussels, clam fritters, and burgers and dogs, all for $32.00, and you have the recipe for a sell out event.

With tunes (and commentary) from "Wolfman John" Villa, even the food servers were danc'n between courses. And with a table-and-a-half of prizes, the raffle seemed to go on all afternoon!

Many thanks to all that help put on this sell-out event, including the kitchen crew, the fire pit crew, and the horseshoe contest coordinators.

Chicken BBQ 2006

The annual Chicken BBQ is being held on Sunday September 10, 2006. Details will follow in the next issue. So far the weather report is showing awesome weather.

Adult Halloween Party - 10/28/2006

Halloween Party 2006!Please join us at the Woodville Rod and Gun for this year's Halloween Party. Tap your toes or shake your booty to "Kickin' Back Country" as they perform "live" from 8pm - 12am. (A mystery guest will be joining in to perform some Patsy Cline tunes). They performed at the club over a year ago, and were very good. Rumor has it that they are working on some new stuff, and are very excited to be coming back to Woodville. Tickets will be $10.00 per person, and the function is open to the public. Come on down and join in the fun! (Costumes preferred, but not required)

Dues and Clubhouse Price Increase

Effective September 5, membership dues have been increased to $80 and the interview fee has been increased to $40. Also approved was a .25 across the board increase on drink prices, effective immediately.

LJ's Tip for August

Sometimes it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

Club Cleanup

It seemed that for the whole summer, on Thursday afternoons Pat Lynch would attack the front lawn and all those Bamboo Shoots. Well after a long, grueling hot summer of weed whacking Pat accomplished the task. The front lot looks awesome. Thank you Pat. And as you drive up the driveway you will see Dave Laquidara's green thumb. David planted all the flowers and greenery at the side entrance and arranged to get wood chips and spread the wood chips along the bankings. The whole area looks absolutely beautiful. Thank you David for all your hard work. Has anyone noticed how clean the parking lot is? Thanks to Doug Mauch and his blowing machine, the back parking lot looks great. Although we don't have all the names we'd like to thank everyone who just came down with their mowers this year to help maintain the lawns. They look wonderful.

Hunting:

This is the best time of the year as hunting season will soon be here! Clean and oil up the long guns and get out onto the ranges. The trap range is a great place to get ready for pheasant season. For our new members, the club stocks birds and you can hunt them without a fee. This is part of your membership benefits. Bow hunters have to get out the equipment and, if necessary, get them tuned. Practice is a requirement as we all get a little rusty over the summer. Rifle and shotgun hunters need to sped time on the range, do this now as it tends to get crowded down there when we get closer to opening day. We may have another squirrel derby this fall, this is a way to get some squirrels for the game feed and have a little fun doing it. If it is decided to have a derby the details will be posted inside the clubhouse.

In case you've misplaced your abstracts you can down load and print a pdf file of the abstracts from the MassWildLife.com website. Click Hunting & Fishing and then Hunting & Fishing Laws. The results are in for antler less permits; this information is also available on the MassWildLife.com website, look on the home page. Remember to be a positive presence when in the field as your actions will reflect on all hunters. You have rights when hunting and Chapter 131, Section 5c of the Massachusetts general laws state "No person shall obstruct, interfere with, or otherwise prevent the lawful taking of fish or wildlife by another at the locale where such activity is taking place". Fines and/or jail time can be administered to enforce this law. ANY interference should be reported! Good luck and be safe this season. LJW

General Information:

If you have turned 65 and have 5 years of membership you are entitled to a life membership. Please contact the club if this applies to you.

Friendly reminder - We are always looking for help at the club events and functions. If you need to complete your 3 new member details, this is a way to do that. You see the club events published in this article. Mark them on your calendars as a reminder, check with your sponsor to see if anything is coming up or stop by the club and see what's happening. An extra pair of hands always makes the chore easier, and more fun!

  • " Goal Membership: At our last meeting Dennis Smith brought up the subject of Woodville members joining Goal. There are many benefits of being a Goal member that will also benefit us.
