  • It’s that time of year again and the Dues are due. Anyone who pays their dues by the first meeting in December (12/2/03) will be eligible for the raffle held at our Adult Christmas Party. The winner of the raffle will not have to pay their dues the following year.

  • If anyone knows of a member who is sick or hospitalized, please let us know. You can leave a message at 508-435-4148.

  • Stay tuned for the low-down on the hoe-down in the next issue of the Message!

  • Starting Sunday October 26th we will have our first Steak Shoot. It’s a fun time for the whole family. They generally start around 4:00.. Hope to see you there!!

  • The Story of the Chicken Barbeque - For as long as any of us can remember, Frank Torento and his chicken-dancing band of men and women have been putting on the Chicken Barbeque and this was their best year ever!

With excellent weather on Sunday, September 7th, the parking lot was over flowing to across the street. John Villa’s PA system was hopping all day long! What a meal for $8.00!

This year’s meal started with corn chowder, with an intermission for shooting, casting, and horse-shoe throwing, followed by the main course: Hickory smoked chicken, cooked outside on a 30 foot by 8 foot wood fire pit. The salads were great, and the baked potatoes were a new treat (but quite the controversy at the WRG, as some said it was traditional to serve potato salad at the chicken BBQ).

I (Lj) thought that the intermission events were a lot of fun! There were multiple age groups for horse-shoes, the casting pool, the archery shoot, and the 410 moving target shoot, the trap shoot, the 22 shoot, and the black powder shoot! Over 40 trophies were handed out! However, the most prestigious awards were given to those that got the most consecutive clay birds while trap shooting. These awards were for Paul A. with 38, Nick M. with 34, and Rachel L. with 19. Good shooting!

  • Lj's Sporting tips - October:
    • When choosing the location for a permanent tree stand for deer hunting, look for a location that is well traveled by deer, and anticipate how this location will look after the leaves fall off the trees.

  • Licenses on the Internet: Beginning this year, licenses, stamps, permits, and boat registration renewals may be purchased on the Internet at www.masswildlife.org. Licenses are also available as in the past, through a network of license vendors.

Persons buying their original license on the Internet may, during the year, decide to upgrade their license, purchase a stamp or apply for a permit electronically. Persons holding traditional paper licenses must purchase permits, stamps and registrations as they have done in the past. They are not eligible for electronic stamps or permits.

  • To all the hunters, fishing men and women out there. Care to share any hunting or fishing stories? We’d be happy to listen and publish your story in the Message and put it on the web page. Come to the member meetings and share your stories!!

  • Don’t forget Trap shooting on Sunday afternoons. We start around 1:30. Come on down and join in the fun.

  • Ongoing, we can order jackets, either spring or winter. If you are interested in looking at these items please keep in contact with the club (508-435-4148). We are taking orders for dungaree shirts; we have samples on display. Stop by the club and check them out. The green hats are in now. Member’s price for a hat is still $5.00. If anyone is interested in the green short sleeve shirts, we can get them for $17.00. Please let us know if you are interested.
