Meetings held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday, Monthly at 8:00pm Calendar of Events
Dues are due It's that time of year again. Please remember that the dues have been increased to $80.00. It's been many years since we've had an increase. We apologize for having to do this at this time, but everything from paper goods to utilities have increased dramatically. We held off as long as possible. If you pay your dues before the Adult Christmas Party (12/9/06) we will put your name into a drawing for free 2008 dues. Otherwise, dues are due by 12/31/2006. After that dues will be increased by $10.00 ($90.00) until 1/31/2007. If you have a hardship paying your dues this year, please contact someone from the membership committee. We'd rather work it out with you than loose a valuable member. New members, if you need to complete your 3 work details, we still have some functions coming up that would help fulfill this obligation. Remember, anytime we have a function at the hall, there is a job to be done. Make sure you have your card signed by the function chairperson, as we will need to see your card at the time of membership renewal. Chicken, Steak and porketta shoots to start soon. Also, spaghetti dinners will be starting up again. TWe will have more information to come. If a date is decided before the next publication, we will post the information on the chalkboard at the club house. Stop in and check it out. 79th Annual Chicken Barbeque It was under sunny skies, and perfect weather for a cookout, that approx. 400 people came out to attend the biggest event of the year for the Woodville Rod & Gun Club. Young and old alike attended the 79th annual Chicken BBQ. Throughout the afternoon, people participated in the shooting events, archery, and the horseshoe tournament. As always the money wheel was a big attraction. Before the main meal there were plenty of hamburgers and hot dogs, along with delicious apple fritters and corn chowder. Between 3:00-4:00 the main meal came out with salad, 1/2 a chicken, corn on the cob and a baked potato. Between 1:00 and 4:00 the ranges were very busy. There were many youngsters and a few oldsters who got to shoot a gun for the first time. As usual, the .410, .22, and black powder shoots were very popular with the children (under close supervision of course). There was a continuous line for the .22 shoot, both children and adults. The black powder shoot is a competition to shoot a .50 caliber ball at the blade of a double headed axe buried in the butt end of a log with a clay bird on either side of it. The object is to split the ball and break both birds. (Sorry Bruce Pratt that some of us missed the ax head (and hit the handle). The trap range had many members helping and had a great turnout. There were some people who hadn't shot in years back for a try. Many thanks go out to the people on the ranges who donate time and equipment to make each year a safe and fun time for our guests. Thanks to the folks who help with the Children Activities. Nothing warms the heart more than to see a child's face glowing when they hit their mark. And many thanks go out to Frenchie and his many cooks, servers, helpers of all ages, the bartenders and all the folks that helped from setting up tables, washing pots and pans, emptying trash, etc, for making this another successful event at the club. We counted 64 members who helped out this year. Thank you All!! Chicken BBQ T-Shirt (sold out) This year Kray Small had BBQ T-Shirts designed for the event. We'd like to say "thank you" to Kray, for taking the time out of his busy schedule to take on this task. He managed to have them designed, ordered and delivered in a very short amount of time. As usual, Kray sold all the t-shirts and the profit is turned over to the club for a good cause. Also, thank you to Tom Steinkrauss for designing the T-Shirts. Both of them did an awesome job. Bird Stocking This year the club will again provide pheasants for the first three Saturday's of Pheasant season, rain or shine. Adult Halloween Party - 10/28/2006
Childrens Halloween Party - 10/31/06 6:00pm-9:00pm We welcome all ghost, goblins, witches and creatures of the night. Come join us for an evening of fun games and edible delights. It is open to the public. So be sure to invite your friends.
Lj's Tip The old adage "be prepared" isn't just for the boy scouts. Anything can happen when you're in the woods hunting, getting lost or hurt to mention a couple. Put together a kit that you can slip into your backpack, fanny pack or cargo pocket with a few essentials: a small first aid kit which can be found at most pharmacies, an extra compass, strike anywhere matches in a watertight container, a roll of electrical tape (this can be used to bind a wound, a splint to your leg, tape the harvest tag inside the deer's ear…), plastic bags (can be used as an emergency water container or keeping the deer heart and liver clean…), an extra knife (sharp!), and a few small chocolate bars. Add anything you think you would need in an emergence situation. This kit can be vacuum packed (if your have one of those gadgets) or stuffed into a heavy zip-lock bag and will not take up much room. Make one up and throw it under the seat of your pick-up or in the camper. We may not be in the boy scouts anymore, but we can still think like one! General Information: If you have turned 65 and have 5 years of membership you are entitled to a life membership. Please contact the club if this applies to you. Friendly reminder - We are always looking for help at the club events and functions. If you need to complete your 3 new member details, this is a way to do that. You see the club events published in this article. Mark them on your calendars as a reminder, check with your sponsor to see if anything is coming up or stop by the club and see what's happening. An extra pair of hands always makes the chore easier, and more fun! Remember...
Scholarship The recipient of this year's scholarship goes to Duncan Roche, a senior from Medway High School. He was a student of Dave Laquidara back in 6th grade
The Woodville Rod & Gun Club of Hopkinton is offering a $500.00 scholarship to a student in the area who shows an interest in environmental education and is pursuing a degree in wildlife, habitat, fisheries or forestry management, environmental, wildlife or marine biology at an accredited college. Please check out the club's website for more information and an application form. www.woodvillerodandgun.com.
Other notes... There are a lot of issues being brought to the member meetings. It's been a busy year, and we still have work to do. Please come join in. When you are sponsoring someone for membership, please have the application fee handed in with the application form. The membership committee will review applications at their next scheduled meeting. The Membership committee will then schedule an appointment for the interview. If you have any questions, please contact someone on the Membership committee. The committee meets on the second Thursday of the month from 7:30pm to 8:15pm. New members, if you need to complete your 3 work details, we still have some functions coming up that would help fulfill this obligation. Remember, anytime we have a function at the hall, there is a job to be done. Ongoing, we can order jackets, shirts, etc. If you are interested in looking at these items please contact the club (508-435-4148). We have orange and green hats on hand, now embroidered ($8), and the newest item is a camouflaged version ($12), two styles. Please contact Cherryl if you would like to purchase a club jacket or other article of clothing. The bartenders can help with the hats, as they are usually in stock at the club. New pictures have been added to our website, check them out at: www.woodvillerodandgun.com and click on the "Gallery". If you would like to post anything to the website please send it to webmaster@woodvillerodandgun.com.
