Sick Call (please contact the club if you know of anyone who is ill)

Helen Paul is on the road to recovery after a major heart attack. She's a strong woman and already wants to get back to work at BJ's. Get well soon and our prayers are with you.

Get well wishes and our prayers go out to Greg Montalbano, our baseball player who started his career with the Boston Red Sox minor league, played for the Portland Sea Dogs and was recently playing for the Worcester Tornadoes until his illness. We hope you are back on your feet soon.

Our President, Dennis Smith was just recently released from the hospital (for the 3rd time this year). It takes more than an illness to keep Dennis down. From his hospital bed he still managed to keep in contact with the club and help with the events going on. Get well soon and our prayers are with you too.

Dues are due

It's that time of year again. Please remember that the dues have been increased to $80.00. It's been many years since we've had an increase. We apologize for having to do this at this time, but everything from paper goods to utilities have increased dramatically. We held off as long as possible.

If you pay your dues before the Adult Christmas Party (12/9/06) we will put your name into a drawing for free 2008 dues. Otherwise, dues are due by 12/31/2006. After that dues will be increased by $10.00 ($90.00) until 1/31/2007.

If you have a hardship paying your dues this year, please contact someone from the membership committee. We'd rather work it out with you than loose a valuable member.

Elections

Mike Collins-President, Lee Wright-Vice President, Gene Walsh-Secretary, Karen Remillard-Treasurer, Boo Clark-Trustee, Kray Small and Steve Warren on Membership committee.

Although Dennis Smith is vacating the president position, he has been asked to be an advisor to the new President. Dennis has been our president for 14 years now. We'd like to say THANK YOU DENNIS. You've been a super President and did an awesome job. There have been many changes over the years, all for the good of the club. It will be hard to follow in your foot steps. We really appreciate you staying on as an advisor.

Bird Stocking

Many thanks to Bruce and Big Joe for stocking a total of 150 pheasants on the first three bird-hunting Saturday's of this season! They tasted great! Thanks to Paul Harlow for rising early in the morning in order to get the birds here before daylight.

Strange but True

A deer was seen on Tuesday, Oct 24th among the picnic tables at the Woodville Rod and Gun club!

Bird Stocking

This year the club will again provide pheasants for the first three Saturday's of Pheasant season, rain or shine.

Adult Halloween Party - 10/28/2006

Halloween Party 2006!

80 people showed up and more than half came in costume for the Adult Halloween Party on Oct 28th. Live music was provided by the band "Kickin' Back Country" as they performed from 8pm - 12am. A tip of the hat goes to Denny's Angels (Cherryl, Kim, Karen, JoAnn, Jenn, Cris and Maggie) for decorating, reserving the band, providing snacks, and making this annual event truly spectacular.

The fund-raising events for the kids Christmas party is always a treat - but you had to be there! Many thanks to everyone for bringing appetizers, snacks, desserts and special thanks for the hard apple cider!

Lj's picks for best costumes go to:

  • Most Original Couple - Boo and Kim (perfect for a fireman)
  • Most Disturbing Couple - Bruce and Betty (the cigar and boots were scary)
  • Most Complementary Couple - Tom and Sue (they had this category "locked up")
  • Most Desired Costume Failure - Priscilla (sorry Brad)
  • Best Tattoo's - Cherryl, Karen - nuf said
  • Most Nightmarish Outfit - Rick (worth the 25 cent bribe)
  • Most Politically Incorrect - Larry (poking fun at Cheney's hunting skills)
  • Mystery Androgynous Character - Cathy (with note cards) (course if she didn't have to write her name on her ticket, no one would have known who she was)

The door prizes actually went to all Woodville members: Betty Pratt, Laura Jackson, Ed Grant Char Hall

    Lj's Tip

Cooking wild game requires different skills and recipes than cooking farm-raised animals. My favorite cookbook is the Kill it and Grill it cookbook from Ted Nugent.

    TV Tickets

With only 100 tickets at $20.00 each, we now have less than 50 tickets left for the 52 inch wide screen Panasonic LCD, HD ready TV. This TV raffle is conducted each year on Superbowl Sunday, and you do not need to be present to win. From the proceeds of this raffle, Brad L. is able to buy a new TV for the club every year, and thanks to the discounts that Vin's TV of Rt 9, Shrewsbury gives us, we were able to get a 32 inch flat screen Sony TV for above the bar!

    From the President

As Bob Hope would sing, "Thanks for the Memories".

It has been an honor to have been your president for all these past years. Since I joined, there have been many changes to and for the betterment of our club. We have seen additions to our kitchen, storage room, indoor pistol range and the main building itself.

I have also had the pleasure of working with many of you members as officers of our club. Many of you have served as Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, trustees and on the membership committee. Also many different members have served as committee heads (trap, range officers, stocking, etc.).

We worked at functions from New Years Eve parties, game feeds, fishing derbies, porketta's, seafood bakes, chicken BBQ's, corn beef dinners and roast beef dinners.

We have gone from simple Super Bowl parties to larger ones where Brad raffles off a large screened TV. I have raffled off lobsters, raffle tickets, alcohol, beer, bird houses, candy, meat, chickens, fishing gear, canoes, ice augers, shotguns and black power rifles.

I can't forget Marge Wright's money dolls, Chris Crosby's lawn furniture or Regina Smith's Raggedy Ann doll and crocheted Afghans.

We also have established a scholarship program, to help ensure our environment. As you are reading this we just served our 7th Thanksgiving Dinner. It's a program with your support that I started. Hopefully as long the club is here, the Thanksgiving meal will continue.

In conclusion, Thank you to all the past, present and future members that I have had the pleasure of working with. And for them, working with me.

I hope we all get behind our new president, Mike Collins with our support so that we will keep going forward as a club.

    Thank you,

    Dennis
