- November News
This month I saw two of the three pheasant fall stockings and many happy hunters. It was great seeing families hunting together. Seeing old friends out hunting and having some laughs together, and seeing the dogs magically locate birds in the most impossible of spaces. We all saw a lot of birds harvested, but still many neighbors are reporting dozens of pheasant at their bird feeders!
November also saw a lot of successful archery hunters. Congrats to all who got their venison! -- And I (Lj) can see that I still need some more practice with my bow... at least I can say that I have a great hunting story that I can share at the bar!
With shotgun season quickly approaching, many of us are changing over to our slug barrels and sighting in our guns in anticipation of opening day. On Thanksgiving Day morning, with my wife vacuuming our house in anticipation of the arrival of many guests, I could hear several shooters sighting in their gun on the shooting range. That was a good enough excuse for me to sneak out of my house and go to the club. At the club I found about 25 workers preparing a Thanksgiving feast for the Seniors, needy familes and for the Hopkinton Fire Dept. This is the third year for the Turkey day meal, and about 125 people were served. On the range I found a couple of the kitchen crew sighting in the shotguns, and one of them was still wearing an apron! I too fired a few rounds on the range to sight in my 870 and then headed back home.
- Lj's Sporting tip:
A hard case will prevent a lot of wear and tear on your compound bow, as many of the pulleys use soft, light-weight metals that can easily be damaged during storage or transporting.
Congratulations to raffle winners Mike Collins who won the 20# lobster, Steve Galuzzo who won the 7.5 # lobster, Rusty Hewins and George Robinson who won the smaller lobsters.
- To all the hunters, fishing men and women out there. Care to share any hunting or fishing stories? We’d be happy to listen and publish your story in the Message and put it on the web page. Come to the member meetings and share your stories!!
