We would like to extend our sincere Thanks to Becky Canty for all her hard work in making the Annual Children's Christmas Party a huge success. Each year Becky goes shopping for the children the day after Thanksgiving. Bless her!! She gets awesome presents and activities for the children.

We would also like to extend our Thanks to Mickey Boody, AKA Santa Claus. Micky has been our Santa for many years now. Thanks again Santa!!

Illness:

Garrett Smith had an unfortunate accident on Thanksgiving Day. We are praying for a speedy recovery. Get well soon Garrett!!

Cookbooks:

We are still collecting recipes for our cookbook. We would appreciate any and all donations. Thank you to those of you that have taken the time to drop off recipes. We know many have said you have some, so we would love to get them into the book. The sooner we get enough recipes, the sooner the book can be published. Any proceeds will go to benefit the club. Recipes for regular types of food are also being accepted along with appetizers and desserts. We are also looking for kids recipes. So let's hear from all you ice fishing and hunting camp cooks. We are also looking for suggestions for a title. Please feel free to let Dennis Smith know any ideas.

November's Major Events

November is a wonderful time of year at the Woodville Rod and Gun Club. The following events occurred:

  • The 3rd and final stocking of a total of 155 pheasant occurred this month, with many birds being harvested on the day of the stocking.
  • The fourth annual Thanksgiving Day dinner was held. This dinner is open to the public, and caters to the needs of senior citizens and the unfortunate town employees who may be working that day.. This year we served 53 people. Many thanks to all the volunteers to help make this, yet again, another successful year! It is a rewarding experience for all that participate.

Got Lobster(s)?

In the spirit of this giving time of year it is fitting to relay a story about one of our members that gives of his time (and heart) all year long. I'm sure a lot of you know him. But I wonder if you know that most recently he entered into a lobster eating contest. Our very own, George Robinson decided to enter into a contest being sponsored by the Weathervane Restaurant chain. They were hosting a contest for the people that ate the most lobsters in all of their locations. George won his spot in the big competition at the Leominster location.

George figured, "If I'm going to lose, at least I'm going down eating lobsters." Almost willing to quit after 13 lobsters, he noticed the woman next to him still eating, so he kept going. All in all, he took second place, by putting away 16 lobsters, and won 35 lobsters. George drives the van for the Hopkinton Council on Aging. He takes the seniors out to eat several times during the year and keeps an eye on what they order. Knowing that most of them can't afford a lobster dinner he decided to donate the lobsters to the seniors. Unfortunately, 35 are not enough to feed everyone. He thought maybe he should have a drawing and see who would be able to partake in this feast. While talking with some friends, they became inspired by his generosity and decided to donate another 65 lobsters to make sure all the seniors will be able to enjoy the feast. They are James Melnick Jr. of JMJ Electric in Upton, and Marco Dendonnen of Upton Wholesale Carpet. The Weathervane was also inspired by his generosity and will be providing the chowder and paper goods to compliment the meal. George asked the Rod and Gun if we would donate the hall or the picnic area for the seniors to enjoy their lobster dinner, and of course the vote was a unanimous "yes."

"Congratulations" George for winning the contest, and for being the giving person that you are. Mary McLeod, out reach worker for the Council on Aging, stated that George is "everybody's brother, son, grandson; he has the extra bit of energy that makes him unique."
